In order to start this journey, you would need to go on foot, by bus or by bike (use your own two-wheeled road cruiser or a
machine borrowed from Nextbike Opole).
Other means of transport are not recommended because the purpose of our trip is the truest of the true alcohol, and mind you, once you try alcohol, it is highly recommended not to drive a car afterwards. What you also need is a few 5 PLN coins (and I hope this will not change) and friends. We travel to the Small Market in Opole, stop in Vaclav Havel Street and head to the Czech pub – Ludova Bar. You can attach your two-wheeled road cruised to a traffic sign – so far no one has paid any attention to my bike being attached to one (meaning, it hasn’t been stolen so far). Do not expect to sit. There are few chairs only. Besides, that’s really not the point. What matters is crowd, good beer and unique atmosphere. I have made this trip a few times. It’s a real fun to try Czech beer and spend some joyful time in the place Opole hasn’t known so far. Apparently the atmosphere of pubs where you stand, talk and drink beer and litter a bar floor with cigarette buds (this version seems to be unacceptable in Poland, and if you ask me I couldn’t care less for smokers - sorry) comes from hot Spain, I heard. You can find similar places in the Czech Republic, the UK and Germany. Finish work, take friends under your arm and go for one or two beers to chat about your "lovely" boss. If you don’t want to sit in an air conditioned inside, feel free to take a glass of beer outside. Of course, it is worth to give empty glasses back, if not, there won’t be another next time in Ludova, I'm afraid. This place is nostalgic, Czech and addictive. One day, I was dreading to step in and have a beer and it was closed (poor owners, wanted to get away from it all). I left the Small Market empty-handed and empty-throated (if such word exists), without even thinking of going to other pub-like places. Maybe thanks to Ludova Bar, the Small Market will finally change its face.
